Mainstream?

Image from JoeCrogan.com

So this is how it is, am going to give you something to chew on. I'm not a fan of pop-culture, the mainstream shiz, more an underground-eccentric type of a culture... But here, I am compelled to give reviews and thoughts on all genres of music, open my narrow-mindedness for you the viewers (ah bless). That noted it will be the best of mainstream-ish - hitting on some cools beats, sounds, reworks and some odd mash-ups.

The first track is a brilliant poke at Lady GaGa (no pun intended), I heard this a couple of months back and it really made me laugh. I even played it at a few parties with a recognisably good reaction from most folk... And it kinda leaves you thinking ‘I make her say what?’… Say what?!

KiD CuDi ft. Kanye West, Common, & Lady Gaga – Make Her Say (aka ‘I Poke Her Face’) (Right-Click to Save)

I heard La Roux’s Quicksand on Kitsuné Maison 6 and thought ahh this is quite a cool song, but after the incredible hype it seemed to generate a kinda anti-climax when she released her following singles - I thought this shit should've been amazing!! It’s taken a while and I’m starting to see through the media shitstorm and after listening to her album, am trying to hold back some inevitable twitches. So yeah mainstream you may have won here.

La Roux versus Little Boots - Stuck On the Kill (Crimes Against Disco Illigitimix) (Right-Click to Save)

Well , next track was an amazing tune by the amazing Passion Pit, and low and behold the people keep coming back with remixes and covers, some the shit and some not so the shit. I am diggin’ this new remix by Starsmith feat. Ellie Goulding, it’s dulled down the electronic feel of the original track and somewhat brought a 90’s feel to it… amazing track!

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Starsmith Remix Feat. Ellie Goulding) (Right-Click to Save)

I know we keeping going on about Major Lazer but come on, they are out of this world! Here’s a mainstream-ified track remixed from Diplo, with a hint of the Cream Classic track You’re Not Alone by Olive…Bloody awesome!

Major Lazer – Keep It Going Louder (Feat. Nina Sky) (Diplo Remix) (Right-Click to Save)

My last track of the post, this tune is from the album Mache, I wasn’t too sure about it at first but it has really grown on me. It’s probably the most mainstream track on the album but it is the shit… Enjoy!

Kay & Aace - Make It Rain (Illangelo Remix) (Right-Click to Save)

Just found this link to Curtis Santiago, the album features rework of tracks such as the Killers - Human, Kid Cudi - Day n Nite and Santigold - L.E.S Artistes. I've not really listened to the album to give a proper review but thought it was a very appropriate for the post, so check it out and leave some comment and that!!

Mick Boogie And Gak City present Curtis Santiago - Have Mercy

Over and out!!

I <3 Apples - Death Note

Yeh, so I haven't really discussed one of my other passions. It's the world of anime. Every person at one point of their life has seen this stuff, Dragonball & Co. is just the tip of the iceberg, an introduction to the vast scope of the Japanese Animation industry. From the cult classics (Akira, Ghost in the Shell) to the beautifully crafted pieces of art (5cm Per Second, The Girl That Leapt Through Time) it's capable of shocking you, moving you. Of course in any industry there are it's shit stuff, I won't bother mentioning them. So we have decided to give you a few suggestions of some that are up there at the top.

Death Note, created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and manga artist Takeshi Obata, is for you. It's the anime I reccommend to fanatics and non-fanatics alike. Why? Because every episode will leave you asking yourself moral questions. It's not your typical anime, it hooks you on the ingeniuty of the complex storyline. A quick sypnosis: Our insanely bright anti-hero, Light, finds a strange notebook, it allows the user to kill off anyone he sees fit. Calmly, he decides he will create a utopia where there is no evil in the world and he will be praised as a God. Of course, it isn't that simple, there are rules to follow and one huge barrier blocking off Light to his ultimate goal. An equally bright detective known only as L. As the plot unfolds you can only marvel at it's brilliance. Tsugumi Ohba's debut and it's intricacy is unbelievable.

So the plot is amazing, but without it's visuals an anime is can fall immediately. Well Takeshi Obata does to the animation what Tsugumi Ohba does to the plot. The realism & crispness gives it an edge which engraves itself in your mind. The perspective is used excellently, at times the 'camera' shakes to display the depravity of our anti-hero.

And I end this post on talk of the anime's soundtrack. Minimal & progressive. I just convinced myself to watch this anime again!

Yoshihisa Hirano and Hideki Taniuchi - Light's Theme

Shall We Knock Down the Decibals?

Ahh, has been a great day, in terms of weather, here in Scotland(?!?!)
So naturally, I felt like lazying about. So here's a few tracks that I found my headphones playing on this kick-ass day.

We've already discussed Dan Black, but damn, he does have talent. The melody is very catchy and you'll find yourself humming the words and getting weird looks of strangers as you pass 'em by. Oh, and the way He says 'Cocoon' makes me laugh. =)

Dan Black - Cocoon (Right-Click to Save!)

Right, this next tracks is a great fusion of two very different tracks. It might just be me, but the beat goes really well with the downright crazy raps provided by Pitbull & Ying Yang Twins. Plus, Santigold's chorus rocks. Crazy & you gotta love it!

Santigold - M.I.A. Artistes (Ft. Pitbull & Ying Yang Twins) (Right-Click to Save!)

To finish up, I'll let Chromeo do the talking. Fresh out the 80s, but wtf is wrong with a lil blast from the past, eh? EH!?!? Damn I dig the synths. And the Sax!

Chromeo - 100% (Right-Click to Save!)

Well, there you go... Variety, bitches! But do not distress fans of thee old shizz, look out for our exclusive feature on a great Electronic producer!

Is Anyone Out There!

Orytee! As Promised this p0st is all about music. None of this stuff is really new but its kinda an intro to the stuff i listen to & what u shud be expecting in the future..

1st piece of music is by David E. Sugar and is from Kitsune 5( I'll Talk about Kitsune Some more ina bit) and it's one of the two songs i'v heard from him which is kinda depressing since I'd kill to hear more and i know its out there so i'll find it!

David E. Sugar - To Yourself (Right-click to save!)

The Second of ... I'v not decided yet O_o, lets say many musac i'll be putting up today will be Metrnomy's My Heart Rate Rapid. This band is very close to my heart since they were the 1st over 18's gig i went to! woot woot! Nuff sed on that

Metronomy - My Heart Rate Rapid (Right-click to save!)

PNAU - Shock To My System (Right-click to save!)

Au Revoir Simone - Backyard Of Our Nieghbours (Right-click to save!)

Right its getting late n shit so I'll make this my final song. It's by a band called Foals. It's relli cool cos no matter where i go i can find someone to talk to about this band as opposed to getting wierd looks from people when i talk about the music i listen to.

Foals - Look At My Furrows Of Worry
(Right-click to save!)

On a Final note, we can't really tell if anyone is reading this blog and tbh i wouldn't be suprised if there isn't anyone out there atm. Yo yo, we meet again.

Watched American Teen & The Promotion yesterday, all i can really say is meh. Weren't that great, but that's just me. But I would reccommend Franklyn, Gerald McMorrow's debut feature length film. Great movie if your willing to stick with it (and stay sharp throughout!) So Really, this dudes first film but, you'll hear this alot, he shows great promise for the future. The freaking mask rocks!^^

Well I got a few remixes for all you guys... right now that means 5 human beings [& a cat (?!?!?)] o_O.
